2017
GOLDEN ENGINEERING DIPLOMA — VIENNA UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY

Annually in December, Vienna University of Technology [Technische Universität Wien] recognizes about 15 or so of its graduates from 50 years ago in a festive ceremony, awarding Golden Diplomas. The selection of those 15 graduates from 1967, from among perhaps 300 graduates at the time, and across all fields, is somewhat mysterious. But the pomp is impressive, with the University President giving a speech and all Deans and Vice-Deans in attendance. My diploma was transferred after a detailed laudatio by the Vice-Dean of the School of Mathematics and Geodesy. No question, the Golden Diploma is larger, prettier than the original diploma, and the ceremony impresses very much more than the original graduation event ever did in 1967.
